(Photo courtesy of the company) | Micky Dolenz will play Wilbur Turnblad in the West End production of the musical Hairspray at the Shaftesbury Theatre, starting on February 2. The musical is directed by Jack O'Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell.
Dolenz, best known for his work on television's The Monkees, appeared on Broadway in Aida. His additional stage credits include Pippin, Grease and A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum.
Hairspray has a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman. The creative team includes David Rockwell (scenic design), William Ivey Long (costume design), Kenneth Posner (lighting design), and Steve C. Kennedy (sound design).
